Ask any housekeeping enthusiast: spring cleaning is a magical thing.
It brings clarity to the mind, energy to the body, and inspiration to the spirit. It energetically clears the way for all the wonderful things you want to create in the fresh new cycle ahead.
And if you want to make it even more magical, try one (or all!) of these enchanted upgrades.
Essential oils are truly natural fragrances: highly concentrated, distilled extractions from individual plants. In addition to smelling fantastic, they possess all sorts of holistic benefits.
Essential oils that are particularly perfect for spring cleaning include clary sage, lavender, peppermint, spearmint, lemon, and tea tree. You can add them to your cleaning products, put a few drops in a mister of water to use as a space clearing spray, or simply diffuse them to clean the air and add a euphoric freshness to the atmosphere.
You can also employ them in cleaning rituals. For example, try adding a few drops of essential oil of spearmint to a pail of warm water. After putting on some cleaning gloves (essential oils can irritate the skin), soak a rag in the water, wring it out, and use it to clean the outside of your front door. As you do so, be conscious that you are clearing the way for positivity and blessings of all varieties to flow into your life experience.
Now that the windows are open again, let the wind perpetually serenade you as you clean with the whimsical sound of fairy bells. The harmonic vibration they create will clear away negative energy while sending swirling sparkles of abundance and luck throughout your space.
Try hanging a strand from a curtain rod, near an open window.
A single vase full of flowers makes an intense difference in the energy of a room. Each blossom imparts a generous supply of vitality, freshness, beauty, and its own living vibrational wisdom. If you want to get motivated to clean, try bringing in a bunch of fresh flowers and see what happens. You’ll be surprised by the burst of energy it brings.
Any bunch of flowers you are drawn to will work, but if you want to get specific about exactly what variety of vibes you’re bringing in, check out this post about the magical and metaphysical properties of flowers.
Speaking of flower power, flower essences are the vibrational wisdom of a blossom, preserved in water and brandy. Please note that although they sound like they would be similar or identical to essential oils, they are totally different things. In fact, being vibrational potions, they have no scent at all…That is, other than the smell of brandy.
How do they make spring cleaning more magical? You can add a few drops to your cleaning products, aroma potions, and space clearing sprays to infuse your home with their uplifting, relaxing, and/or healing vibrations.
Bach Flower Remedies are the easiest to find – most health food stores carry them. Try white chestnut to create a clear, serene vibration, Rescue Remedy to relieve stress and support physical and emotional healing, honeysuckle to get stuck energy moving, and wild oat to create an atmosphere conducive to creativity and fun.
In Sacred Geometry, Miranda Lundy writes, Geometry is “number in space,” music is “number in time.”
Indeed, the right music imparts a precise, multi-dimensional pattern in the energetic landscape of the home. It recalibrates your home’s akashic field, restructures molecules, clears stagnant energy, and generally harmonizes at all levels.
I just love burning incense while I clean. It lifts my consciousness out of the illusion of mundane and reminds me that what I am doing is exactly as sacred as I choose for it to be.
Additionally, like music and flowers, incense smoke lifts the vibration instantly and helps move the energy around, which acts as a subtle-yet-powerful motivator.
For cleaning, try frankincense, cedar, sage, pine, rose, or piñon.
When the spring cleaning bug bites, you become a fiend for that sweet euphoria you feel when everything is sparkly clean and gloriously in its place. It’s as if you’re trying to capture the clear springtime sun shining on rosebuds, so you can sprinkle it all over your home.
Well guess what: you can! With rose water. Mist it generously in the air and make your spring cleaning dreams come true.
Magical brooms are for more than just flying. They’re also for creating sacred space as they literally and figuratively sweep out the old and stuck to make room for the new and fresh.
And with a simple broom blessing ritual, you can invest your broom with the power to do such things regularly: with every routine sweep. Here are some ideas for how to do this:
- Leave your broom out overnight to soak up the light of the full moon,
- Leave your broom out in bright sunlight for at least an hour,
- Mist your broom with rose water,
- Tie ribbons and fairy bells around your broom, and/or
- Smudge your broom with sage (see below if you don’t know how to do this).
Speaking of sage, giving your home a good smudge with a bundle of dried white sage is always a good springtime plan. You can do this before you clean if you want to get motivated and affect an initial energy shift before doing any heavy work, or you can do it after you clean if you want to augment your physical cleaning efforts with a thorough energy cleanse.
After opening all the windows (and possibly doors), hold the bundle over a dish or a plate and light it so that it’s smoking like incense. Then, move around each room and area of your home in a counterclockwise direction (while still holding the plate to catch burning embers), as you let the smoke swirl around the perimeter and in the corners. You’ll find that this lifts and purifies the energy like gangbusters. To extinguish, seal the bundle in a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid.
…And if you’re not fond of smoke, or you don’t want to set off any smoke alarms, try a smudge spray! I love this one.
Last but not least: crystals! Wearing certain crystals can help attune you to the vibration of clean. Besides, who doesn’t love an excuse for a new piece of magical jewelry?
Try clear quartz to bolster your energy and protect you from absorbing negative energy while you clean, fluorite to support your organization efforts and help you focus, aventurine to attune you to the frequency of love and to help you spread this frequency throughout your home, or amethyst to establish a soothing and calming vibration within and around you. (For more ideas for what to do with crystals, check out this post and this post.)
