When I couldn’t sleep as a child, my mom made me a cup of Sleepytime tea. After I drank it, she had me get back in bed and close my eyes. She turned off the light and in a very soothing voice, led me through a visualization where I walked barefoot on the beach in a “really pretty dress” with my hair blowing in the breeze.
Ever since then, I’ve loved herbal tea.
I’ve also loved taking a moment to make teatime into a ritual and a mini-meditation, letting the herbs in the tea color the subtle energy of the moment. For example:
Peppermint: exhilarating, soothing
Spearmint: calming, soothing
Rose Petals: heart opening, expansive
Red Tea (Rooibos): grounding, calming, energizing
Cinnamon: warming, spirit-lifting, luxurious
Kava: deeply relaxing, releases tension and worries
Chamomile: gently relaxing, soothing, grounding
