You probably already agree that the words we use and the thoughts we think have powerful effects on our self-image and state of mind, and consequently on the things we attract into our everyday lives. Similarly, our home’s ambiance tells us stories about ourselves that we subtly internalize, and then radiate out into the world. In turn, these stories shape our life experience, continually reinforcing themselves in an endless cycle.
This is just one of the many dynamics involved with the feng shui principle “our inner environment reflects our outer environment (and vice versa),” and the principle’s magical twin, “as above, so below.”
So look around your home with fresh eyes. What stories does it tell you? For example, it might tell you, “Someone wealthy lives here,” “The person who lives here is happy,” or “Life is magical and fun.” Or, conversely, it might tell you, “Someone who has financial problems lives here,” “The person who lives here is frustrated with life,” or “Life is no fun.”
Or, it might tell you positive stories in one area, and less-than-positive stories in another area. Tune in so you can tune it up! And when you do, know that even simple, inexpensive changes can make a huge difference, such as clearing clutter, fixing a squeaky hinge, rolling up the change in your dusty old change jar, mending a torn curtain, adding a few house plants, or replacing the doormat.
