Instantly feel more love and approval for yourself with one of these five self-esteem boosting activities.
Every single one of us can use a self-esteem boost every now and then.
Even though some people may appear to be confident all the time, in every situation, that is never true. Everyone’s self-esteem ebbs and flows, and we can all be hard on ourselves at times.
The good news is that we can improve our self-esteem through very simple activities like the ones below. They may even seem too simple…but they’re not! Try one and see what happens.
Self-Esteem Booster #1: Clear Clutter
Don’t worry if you’re strapped for time: even clearing the clutter from a single drawer can have a positive effect on your self-image and mood. Of course, a larger area such as a dresser, the fridge, your car, or even an entire room can even more substantially boost your self-esteem. (Every time I clear my kitchen clutter I feel about 100% better about myself.) Just choose one limited area. Then put on some music, diffuse some essential oil or light a stick of incense, and go for it.
Self-Esteem Booster #2: Exercise
Honestly any kind of movement – even 5 minutes of it – can improve your mood and boost your positive feelings about yourself. And getting in the habit of exercising 3-5 times a week will have even deeper and more long-term effects. So stretch, dance, take a walk in your neighborhood, visit a local gym or yoga studio, or jump on your bike. (Or try Fitnessblender’s free online videos! I love them.)
Self-Esteem Booster #3: Love Your Wardrobe
There is way too much cultural baggage attached to fashion. On the one hand, we’re supposed to feel superficial if we care too much about it. On the other hand, we’re threatened with shame if we don’t stay up on the trends. Our only real option is to throw out both stories and reclaim our wardrobes as our own. You don’t need to consult fashion magazines or blogs (unless you want to). You don’t need to update your look every year (unless it feels right). All you need is to treat yourself like the lovable and deserving Divine child you are by taking the time to find the clothes and accessories you love. Assemble a wardrobe that makes you feel like the most sparkly and sensational version of you, because (of course) that’s who you really are.
Oh, and you don’t have to spend a ton! With just a little patience and creativity, thrift stores, consignment stores, and clothes swaps are often abundant sources of affordable (and eco-friendly) fashion options.
Self-Esteem Booster #4: Stop Comparing Yourself to Others
If looking at social media triggers painful comparisons between yourself and others, it’s time to make a change. Consider hiding or unfollowing any accounts that often cause such negative feelings for you. After all, there are plenty of accounts that will do just the opposite! For example, Baddiewinkle’s Instagram account is a stellar example of unapologetic self-love. Selena Fox’s Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook pages are endless fountains of spiritual inspiration. And Nayyirah Waheed’s Instagram account offers regular doses of breathtaking (and self-esteem promoting) poetry.
Remember: we’re all counting on you to be you! Because no one else can do it. Only you.
Self-Esteem Booster #5: Spend Time in Nature
It is truly astounding how quickly and thoroughly nature can remind you of your own beauty and worth. It’s actually shocking! Step outside, soak in the scenery, and see for yourself.
Any of these self-esteem boosters can help improve your mood and rewrite your inner monologue for the better. Taking the time to do one of them is an act of kindness toward yourself. That alone can help you feel treasured and deserving. So make the effort and experience the shift.
…Did you try one of these self-esteem boosters? How did it go?
I’m always skeptical of articles like this, but it’s so simple and spot on. I’m going to work on these this week step by step. Thank you for always posting such helpful content!
So glad it’s helpful, Susie! Thank you for letting me know. 🙂
