Employ these simple strategies for happiness, health, and success in the Year of the Yin Earth Pig.
The Year of the Pig is always sensuous, abundant, generous, tolerant, and kind.
The fact that this is an Earth Pig year amplifies these qualities.
While the Year of the Dog was masculine and active, the Year of the Pig is feminine and receptive.
Here are some ways to live joyfully and harmoniously in the Year of the Pig.
1. Celebrate Everything
In the Year of the Pig, you’ll find it feels wonderful to celebrate. So celebrate the obvious holidays (like Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day) and the Pagan holidays (like the Spring Equinox and Beltane), but also the less well known holidays (like Lupercalia, World Chocolate Day, and Black Cat Appreciation Day). Also celebrate your successes, whether you graduate from law school, knit your first sweater, or finally learn to parallel park. Other reasons to celebrate: the new moon, the full moon, the dark moon, and basically anywhere in between. The very fact that you’re alive on earth is worth celebrating!
2. Let Go
While chasing down sticks and gnawing at bones may have served you well during the Year of the Dog, the Year of the Pig asks you to let your worries and fixations go and to just enjoy being alive on this beautiful earth. Letting go includes forgiving people who have wronged you, forgiving yourself for whatever you’ve been blaming yourself for, and generally going with the flow of life. You’ll also find great freedom in noticing where you’ve been overly attentive to detail and surrendering the need to excessively control.
3. Find Inner Peace
The Year of the Pig is all about peace, harmony, and your inner world. So make it a priority to balance and beautify your consciousness through things like meditation, relaxation, and emotional healing. Your whole life will benefit when these become daily habits. If you’re super busy, actually put them in your calendar.
4. Delight in the Physical World
Everything is energy. There is no separation between the visible and invisible, seen and unseen. The Year of the Pig reminds us that when we treat the entire physical world with reverence, we feel connected to the universe and nourished by Mother Earth. So savor the scent of flowers, the taste of food, the delight of a hug, and the feeling of your bare feet on the soil. Treat your physical body with loving kindness and feel deep gratitude for your home, wardrobe, and other physical belongings.
5. Take it Slow
If you’ve ever driven out of a bustling city and into a sleepy small town, you know the feeling of adjusting to a much slower and more leisurely pace. The shift from the Year of the Dog to the Year of the Pig is very similar. Remind yourself that the hectic tempo that’s kept you running for the last 12 months or so just doesn’t make sense in this new wave of energy. Then take a deep breath, feel present in your body, and enter into a more relaxed and meditative state of mind.
Brightest blessings in the Year of the Pig! I wish you health, wealth, happiness, success, and every wonderful thing.
