Have fun, get in a zone, and lift the vibe.
When you clean with intention, it’s not a chore. It’s an art.
It brings clarity, energy, and inspiration. And it clears the way for all the wonderful things you want to manifest.
Here are some ways to spring clean – magically.

Aromatherapy
You probably already know that essential oils are concentrated, distilled extractions from individual plants.
You have to be careful with them! They can irritate your skin, some are toxic, and many are too strong for safe proximity children and pets.
For spring cleaning, I love clary sage, lavender, peppermint, spearmint, and lemon. You can add them to your existing cleaning products, use them to make your own cleaning products, put a few drops in a mister of rose water to use as a space clearing spray, or simply diffuse them to refresh and uplift.
For a simple cleaning ritual, add a few drops of essential oil of spearmint to a pail of warm water. After donning some gloves (essential oils can irritate the skin), soak a rag in the water, wring it out, and use it to wipe down the outside of your front door. As you clean, feel, sense, and know that you’re clearing the way for positivity and blessings of all varieties to flow into your life experience.
Jingle Bells or Witch Bells
Jingle bells aren’t just for Yule! Serenade your spring cleaning with their whimsical ring. The sound will clear away negative energy while blessing your home with sparkles of abundance and luck. Tie some of these little guys on to your broom.
Or, try hanging witch bells from a curtain rod, near an open window.
Flowers
Flowers change the vibe of a whole room.
Here’s some simple springtime magic for ya: bring in a bunch of fresh flowers and see what happens. You’ll be surprised by the burst of energy it brings.
Any bunch of flowers you are drawn to will work, but if you want to get specific about the vibes, check out this post about the magical and metaphysical properties of flowers.
Flower Essences
Speaking of flower power, flower essences.
A flower essence is the vibrational wisdom of a blossom, preserved in water and brandy. Please note that although they sound similar or identical to essential oils, they are totally different things. In fact, being vibrational potions, they have no scent at all…Well, they don’t smell like flowers, at least. They smell like brandy.
Try adding a few drops of a flower essence of your choice to your cleaning products, aroma potions, and space clearing sprays to infuse your home with their unique floral wisdom and vibe.
Bach Flower Remedies are the easiest to find – most health food stores carry them. Try white chestnut to create a clear, serene vibration, Rescue Remedy to relieve stress and support physical and emotional healing, honeysuckle to get stuck energy moving, and wild oat to get your groove back and establish an ambiance of creativity and fun.
Music
In Sacred Geometry, Miranda Lundy writes, Geometry is “number in space,” music is “number in time.”
Harmonious music imparts a structure of light in the home – a multi-dimensional pattern in the energetic landscape. It also clears stagnant energy, and generally harmonizes at all levels. Plus, it helps you get into a zone.
I like Anugama and Steven Halpern for this purpose.
Incense
I just love burning incense while I spring clean. It shakes me out of the illusion of mundane and reminds me that what I’m doing is exactly as sacred as I choose for it to be.
Additionally, like music and flowers, incense smoke lifts the vibration instantly and helps move the energy around, which acts as a subtle-yet-powerful motivator.
Fred Soll’s is my favorite, but I sort of like it all. For cleaning, try frankincense, cedar, sage, rose, or piñon.
Rose Water
You know that feeling when everything is sparkly clean and gloriously in its place? It’s the best, right?
Rose water is basically that feeling in a bottle.
Mist it generously in the air to inspire your cleaning efforts while filling your home with sweetness and light.
A Broom Blessing
A broom is a magical thing. It Literally and figuratively sweeps out the old and makes room for the new.
To supercharge your broom, bless it with this simple ritual.
First, leave your broom out overnight to soak up the light of the full moon.
Also leave your broom out in bright sunlight for at least an hour.
Next, lightly mist your broom with rose water.
Tie a ribbon and string some bells around your broom.
Cleanse your broom with sage smoke (see below if you don’t know how to do this).
Sage
Now for a go-to. Cleanse your home with the smoke from a bundle of dried white sage.
You can do this before you clean or after you clean, whichever feels right.
Open the windows.
Hold the bundle over a dish or a plate and light it with a lighter until it’s smoking like incense.
Then, move around each room and area of your home in a counterclockwise direction while still holding the plate to catch burning embers.
Let the smoke swirl around the perimeter and in the corners.
To extinguish, seal the bundle in a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid.
If you’re not fond of smoke, or you don’t want to set off any smoke alarms, but you still want some sage vibes in your space, no problem! Try a smudge spray.
Crystals
Last but not least: crystals!
Wear or carry a crystal as you clean, place crystals around your home, or anchor your spring cleaning intentions by assembling a crystal grid.
Try clear quartz to bolster your energy, fluorite to support your organization efforts and help you focus, aventurine to attune you to the frequency of love and to help you spread this frequency throughout your home, or amethyst to establish a soothing and calming vibration within and around you. (For more ideas for what to do with crystals, check out this post and this post.)

A splash of Florida Water in the mop bucket makes me look forward to cleaning.
Yes! Love it. Great tip. Thanks, Brooke.
Thanks for sharing these ideas. I love a good spring cleaning to usher in the season. I sprinkle bergamot essential oil in baking soda and use it for scrubbing. Smells great!
Sarah, love this idea! That would smell so clean.
