Shield and guard your personal energy with one of these potent protection charms.
Whether you want to protect yourself from negative thoughts, negative vibes, or negative intentions, protection magic can help.
These are some of my favorite single ingredient and homemade protection charms.
(Of course, don’t forget to make safe, commonsense choices in the physical world. In other words, carry a protection charm, but also wear your seatbelt and lock your doors.)

Protection Charm #1: A Garlic Clove
Garlic is the quintessential spiritual protection charm: it has high, clear, potent vibrations that repel, dissuade, and transmute negative energy of all varieties. Charge a single clove of garlic by holding it in bright sunlight for a minute or two. Then keep it with you when you need an extra boost of protection.
Protection Charm #2: Dragonsblood Oil
It’s an oil, but it’s also a charm. Made with the bright red resin of the draco palm, dragonsblood oil is dazzling in its protective properties. Lightly anoint your forehead, palms, and lower belly to cloak yourself in a strong armor of spiritual and energetic protection.
Protection Charm #3: A Pentagram Pendant
The pentagram is a protection charm because it’s a microcosm of the manifested reality on earth as well as the spiritual energy that unites, underlies, and animates all things. It also holds the energy of a strong and positive protective boundary, through which no negativity may enter. Place your pentagram pendant or charm on a white cloth under the light of the full moon for one night. Then wear or carry it to benefit from this little charm’s big protective powers.
Protection Charm #4: A Black Tourmaline
The gemstone known as black tourmaline is an instant neutralizer of the harsh, frenetic, unhealthy energy associated with electromagnetic fields, as well as otherwise challenging energetic vibrations. Keep a tourmaline crystal near your bed for energetic protection while you sleep. Or, wear it as a protective pendant to stay calm, grounded, and positive even in the midst of challenging vibes.
Protection Charm #5: A Sachet of Yarrow
Yarrow is a healing flower that helps protect us from both physical and spiritual dangers. To make a homemade protection charm, spread white cloth on the earth near the base of a tree. Place a small amount of dried yarrow on the cloth to allow it to re-attune to the energy of the earth. After a minute or two, transfer it to a small sachet. Pin this protection charm to the inside of your clothing or tuck it in your pocket to protect your aura and promote general safety and wellbeing.
When you feel the need, it never hurts to empower and carry a protection charm. It’ll help you feel extra safe, grounded, and vitalized, which will in turn positively affect every aspect of your life.

I don’t know if this energy is coming from the spiritual plane or physical plane?

Hi Melissa! Do you do a cleansing/shielding meditation every day? I have some on my site, like these: https://tesswhitehurst.com/quick-thorough-aura-cleansing-meditation/ https://tesswhitehurst.com/10-minute-chakra-clearing-meditation-3/

I wear a tourmaline pendant but find I’m still dealing with negative heavy oppressive energy? I would appreciate any advice? I cleanse it daily…running it under cold water and then put it in Tibetan singing bowl and ring it..

Is it possible to find out if someone passed away due to spells/black magic?
Thanks.

It is my intuitive sense that the person you are wondering about did not die from magical causes.

Hi, I just found your site and have a question for you! I am a “newbie” and wondering where should I start to learn more? I am a very spiritual (NOT religious!) person who is drawn to Wicca and the magical life. I didn’t know if you have a starting point here on your site, like which one of your books do you suggest i start with, etc? Thanks for any suggestions!
Tess Whitehurst says
Beth, welcome to the magical path! I recommend my book, You Are Magical: https://tesswhitehurst.com/book/you-are-magical/

Hi Tess, am currently reading your book: You Are Magical. Taking my time and reading thoughtfully; feel your positivity whenever I pick it up! Right now am looking around me and wondering about elements in everything. This will sound silly, but during cold months I ‘rescue’ lacewings, seed bugs, or the odd errant bee, keep them hydrated and fed if I’m able, rather than throw them outside in freezing temps. I imagine even the tiniest creature has particular elements pertaining to appearance, behavior, etc.
Thank you so much for writing such a lovely book and blessings to you for posting the protection spells; much needed right now with all going on in the world.
Please consider writing about the connection between Susskind’s theory of a holographic universe and magic; if you have done so already, please let me know where that information may be found. 💜
Tess Whitehurst says
Lisa, thank you so much for connecting! For the holographic universe connection, if you haven’t already, I suggest reading Greg Braeden’s book, The Divine Matrix.

Thanks for the recommendation!
