Bagua Area Overview: The Fame and Reputation Area

In feng shui, the fame and reputation area has to do with shining your light, socializing and connecting with others, and sharing your gifts with the world.

In many ways, this bagua area works hand in hand with the career/life path area.

While the career/life path area has to do with your own personal, solitary connection with your authentic depths, the fame/reputation/radiance area has to do with how you radiate those unique depths – i.e. how you are known and seen and appreciated in the world. Without the career area, the radiance area can seem shallow and egotistical, but with the career area, it’s a way of giving valuable gifts of wisdom and love to the world. Similarly, when the career area doesn’t have the outlet of the radiance area, we can begin to feel depressed and isolated. A healthy balance incorporates an activation of both areas as equally as possible. The deeper you go, the brighter your light can shine.

In the I Ching, this area is aligned with “clinging fire,” and the fire element. Consider the phrases, “I can see it now, my name in lights,” “You’re on fire,” “You’re blowing up,” and “[such and such] is very ‘hot’ right now.”All connote success in the fame/reputation department. Similarly, stars and radial shapes represent the fire element, which is clearly demonstrated by the fact that “star” is a word that is used interchangeably with “celebrity.”

In your home, the colors related to this area are all shades of red, as well as bright warm colors like bright orange and bright pink. Warm purple can also be great in this area, as can accents of blue or green (since blue and green represent the wood element, which lends strength to the fire element). As mentioned above, star and radial shapes bring in the fire element. This includes sun shapes and flowers that radiate out like daisies. Pictures of people and animals are also fiery, as are animal prints and faux animal materials. Candles, lighting, stoves, and fireplaces are other more literal ways to bring in the fire element.

Other positive imagery for this area can include pictures of celebrities or public figures who are known and seen in ways that you would like to be known and seen, and in certain cases actual publicity items such as newspaper articles in which you have featured or awards that you have received. In businesses, a prominent logo of the business, or a sign, can be positive in this area if it feels attractive and appropriate.

If this area lies outside your home, fiery colored flowers or red lawn furniture can be a good way to fill it in or complete the space, as can an actual fire pit. If you want to fill it in but you don’t have jurisdiction over the outside area, art with depth that depicts fireworks, candles, or fireworks might be appropriate, or red rainbow crystals in a window bordering the area.

If your bedroom is in this area, warm and fiery colors and elements are great for both considerations (fame and the bedroom), but just make sure that any imagery depicting people or animals depicts a pair that appears to be in a harmonious, romantic relationship. Similarly, if you have one picture or statue depicting a star or a radial shape in your bedroom, have two pictures/statues-or one depicting a pair of stars/radial shapes.
