Here are five simple feng shui cures that will lighten your mood and brighten your day.
“The primary goal of Feng Shui is to bring you and your home into harmony so that you are not just surviving one storm after another, but are thriving in a paradise of your own design.”
-Terah Kathryn Collins in The Western Guide to Feng Shui: Room by Room
Feng shui – often defined as the art of placement – brings beauty to the home and joy to the heart. While feng shui is a Chinese term, every culture possesses something like it. You might say that every time you make a change to your home that makes your heart happier, you are essentially practicing feng shui.
Here are 5 ways to do just that.
Feng Shui Cure #1: Position a prismatic sphere in a sunny window.
When the sun catches them, prismatic spheres – often called feng shui crystals – scatter rainbows across the room. Of course, it is very difficult not to be happy when rainbows are scattered across the room. This feng shui crystal is extra fun, as it employs solar power to revolve – which scatters rainbows disco-ball-style.
Feng Shui Cure #2: Hang a wind chime near your front door.
Provided you find one with a beautiful sound, a wind chime near the door can lift your mood today and for years and decades to come. The front door is a feng shui power spot in the home: it’s where all blessings and wealth symbolically enter your life. As such, a beautiful, wind-driven sound near the door purifies the energy and lifts the vibration for the entire home, in turn drawing wealth and blessings into every area of your life.
Feng Shui Cure #3: Paint your front door.
Many people associate feng shui with a bright red door, and vice versa. And with good reason: bright red is a highly auspicious color. It’s both powerfully protective and powerfully aligned with blessings and success. Indeed, perhaps you’ve noticed that simply viewing a vibrant red door can inspire a smile. But you don’t have to go with red. You can get creative! Any vibrant color that feels right to you will do. There’s just one rule: you gotta love it.
Feng Shui Cure #4: Diffuse citrus essential oil.
Tangerine, sweet orange, grapefruit, lemon, or even neroli (orange blossom) essential oil will all help conjure up warm feelings of harmony, contentment, and joy. Simply diffuse them in an essential oil diffuser or put a few drops in a mister of water and spray.
Feng Shui Cure #5: Bring in some living bamboo.
Bamboo just might be the happiest house plant. Its swift, upward rush of invigorating verdure lifts the energy in a room and makes the heart chakra soar. And it’s so easy to maintain! Just keep the water fresh and keep it out of direct sunlight, and it’ll love you forever.

These “lucky bamboo” plants are actually bonsai-ed corn plants, or draceana. But I still agree, this is still a cheerful little plant! I have several, both large and the bonsai version. They do cheer up a room!
