Start your day with this magical meditation and devotional prayer.
Life is best when we weave a little magic into every single day.
Praying this Pagan Rosary prayer is beautiful way to bring devotion and serenity to your morning, to bless your day, and to clear the way for every wonderful thing.
As I wrote about in this post, I was in the habit of praying the Catholic Rosary daily, despite not being Catholic or Christian at all.
Then, an aunt recommended that I write my own version of the Rosary, which I did. And today I’m sharing that prayer (it’s really a collection of prayers) with you.
First, I’ll share a basic version you can do. Then, I’ll share a more involved version. I recommend giving both a try.
Keep in mind that you can change any of the words to fit your own practice and preference.
Pagan Rosary, Basic Version
While you can certainly use a standard string of rosary beads if you’d like, you can also make your own like I did, so there’s no Christian symbolism involved. You could even use crystals, pentagram beads, or anything else that will make it your own.
Here’s a video describing this basic version of the Pagan Rosary Prayer.
Below, you can find the prayers I discussed in the video. Refer to the diagram for which beads to use for which prayers.
Bead 1
Place your hand on your heart.
Say The Invocation:
In the heart of the Goddess,
And of the God,
And of the Great Holy Mystery,
Blessed be.
Now, remove your hand from your heart and say The Great Prayer:
Great Goddess,
Great God,
Great Holy Mystery,
All That Is,
I call on you.
Your consciousness is my consciousness.
Your will is my will.
Divinity is within me and I am divine.
Thank you for granting me all I need today to thrive.
Thank you for aligning me with Spirit and illuminating my path.
Thank you for opening my heart, so that I may love others fully,
And for opening my eyes so that I may see them as divine.
Thank you for holding me in the protective light of peace.
So mote it be.
All the Smaller Beads
For all the smaller beads (1:1-1:5, 2:1-2:10, 3:1-3:10, 4:1-4:10, 5:1-5:10, and 6:1-6:10),
Say The Road Opener Prayer:
Divine Presence and Sacred Light, I invoke you.
Guide my way today and shine your radiance on the path ahead.
Open every door and clear every channel;
so I may move forward with ease and laughter,
and with great joy in my heart.
For my highest and truest good,
And the highest and truest good of all.
Thank you.
All the Larger Beads
For all the larger beads (beads 2-6), say The Great Prayer again.
Then, when you return to bead #2, say The Great Prayer one more time.
Then, place your hand on your heart and finish with The Invocation.
Pagan Rosary, Advanced Version
Once you get the hang of the basic version, or if you want to start doing a more advanced version right away, try this.
In this version of the Pagan Rosary Prayer, for beads 2-6, there are various blessings you can do on various days. This is the Ancestor Rosary, which I pray on Mondays and Saturdays.
Obviously, you will want to fill in the blanks for your own ancestors. Keep in mind that you don’t have to select grandparents, or even relatives. You could include anyone on the other side – human or non – you consider a beloved ally and friend.
This may seem a bit complicated at first, but if you practice it for just a little while, I know you’ll get the hang of it. After you read through it, I recommend copying it down in a journal or a book of shadows in a way that will help you to have a sense of ease and flow about what comes next.
First, here’s that diagram again:
Bead 1
Place your hand on your heart.
Say The Invocation:
In the heart of the Goddess,
And of the God,
And of the Great Holy Mystery,
Blessed be.
Now, remove your hand from your heart and say The Declaration:
(Remember to personalize this to reflect your own beliefs)
I believe in the Great Goddess,
The Great God,
And the Great Holy Mystery,
Also called All That Is
Which both issues from and gives birth to its primordial parents
In a beginning-less, endless cycle of creation.
I believe in the One Consciousness,
The golden light of healing,
The archangels,
The power of love,
The wisdom of the ancestors,
The value of gratitude,
The responsibility to serve,
And my own inherent spiritual power.
Blessed be.
Bead 1:1
Say The Great Prayer (see above)
Beads 1:2-1:4
Say The Road Opener Prayer (see above)
Bead 1:5
Place your hand on your heart and say The Invocation.
Bead 2
This is The First Ancestor Blessing. Say:
The First Ancestor Blessing: All the Ancestors
Maternal Ancestors,
Paternal ancestors,
Countless upon countless,
Tumbling forward and funneling downward through time,
Look upon your [daughter] and smile.
Remind me of your wisdom.
Show me where to go.
Now, say The Great Prayer.
Finish up this bead with The Memento Mori:
Divine Consciousness, help me remember both my true eternal nature and the fleeting nature of human life.
Blessed be.
Beads 2:1-2:10
Say The Road Opener Prayer
Bead 3
Place your hand on your heart and say The Invocation.
Then say:
The Second Ancestor Blessing: [Grandma, or name you used to refer to this loved one]
[Full name of loved one]
Born [birthdate of loved one], a [zodiac sign of loved one].
Bless me, smile on me, guide me.
Support me in [something this ancestor excelled at in life or a way they may want to help you from the other side, for example, “growing my wealth,” “raising my kids,” or “helping me express myself.”].
[Grandma], I love you. Thank you.
Now, say The Great Prayer, followed by The Memento Mori.
Beads 3:1-3:10
Say The Road Opener Prayer
Bead 4
Place your hand on your heart and say The Invocation.
Then say:
The Third Ancestor Blessing: [Grandpa, or name you used to refer to this loved one]
[Full name of loved one]
Born [birthdate of loved one], a [zodiac sign of loved one].
Bless me, smile on me, guide me.
Support me in [something this ancestor excelled at in life or a way they may want to help you from the other side.”].
[Grandpa], I love you. Thank you.
Now, say The Great Prayer, followed by The Memento Mori.
Beads 4:1-4:10

Bead 5
Place your hand on your heart and say The Invocation.
Then say:
The Fourth Ancestor Blessing: [Grandma, or name you used to refer to this loved one]
[Full name of loved one]
Born [birthdate of loved one], a [zodiac sign of loved one].
Bless me, smile on me, guide me.
Support me in [something this ancestor excelled at in life or a way they may want to help you from the other side.”].
[Grandma], I love you. Thank you.
Now, say The Great Prayer, followed by The Memento Mori.
Beads 5:1-5:10
Say The Road Opener Prayer
Bead 6
Place your hand on your heart and say The Invocation.
Then say:
The Fifth Ancestor Blessing: [Grandpa, or name you used to refer to this loved one]
Beads 6:1-6:10
Say The Road Opener Prayer
Back to Bead 2
Say The Closing Prayer:
By Earth and Air,
By Fire and Water,
And by Spirit,
My prayers are chanted and my magic is cast.
Thank you God and Goddess,
Sun and moon,
Earth and limitless stars.
Thank you for blessing this day and for anchoring me in your love.
Thank you for awakening me to the miracles that surround me always,
And thank you for alerting me to the miracles that are mine to perform.
As I live today, may I live fully,
And if I die today, may it be a good death, after a life well lived.
Blessed be.
Now, one more time, place your hand on your heart and say The Invocation. It is done.
Variations on The Five Blessings
As I said, I pray The Ancestor Rosary (above) on Mondays and Saturdays. I recommend choosing your own variations for various days of the week.
Here’s a summary of my variations to help inspire your creativity:
On Tuesdays and Fridays, I replace the ancestor blessings with quotes and prayers from St. Therese, since she is a beloved spiritual ally of mine.
On Sundays and Wednesdays, the blessing sections are dedicated to prayers to the Archangels.
On Thursdays, each of the five blessings is a prayer for prosperity and abundance.
Well, what do you think? Are you going to start your own Pagan Rosary practice?
I’m not just saying this: I’d love to hear your thoughts, questions, and ideas in the comments below.

Dear Tess, you have brought a Gift to me this morning. I have been fascinated with Rosaries since I was a child. As a non-Catholic I was looked upon as an “outsider” when i questioned the ritual. (And I love rituals) ok, so I’ll make my own, 10 yrs old out of thread and tin foil. ( The memory just came back (‘:) I loved holding the beads and made a few vain attempts at the prayers involved, so though the Rosary called, the prayers did not. A good friend gave me a rosary over 25 yrs ago and I still carry her. I became familiar with the Ho’oponopono Prayer, “I’m sorry, forgive me, thank you, I Love you” and began hand knotting 70 bead malas, rescued rosaries from thrift shops, waiting to dismantle the catholicism out of them ( the crucifix) and then this morning! Here was your most wonderful, simple, meaningful, sacred mala. I am currently healing from “dis-ease”, as a Reiki master practitioner the light and energy you stirred has me vibrating.
A door of creative freedom, joyful crafting, sacred prayer and the spirit of the Divine has opened thanks to you.
Please keep up your beautiful work, several times I have brought your words and thoughts into meditations I lead. A blessed Thanksgiving from your “old bat on the mat” fan. Most sincere thanks.

Valinidevi, the comment posted after all! I love everything you said and am so gratified to know you know what I mean about Rosaries. I had the same feeling as a child! Both my grandmas prayed the Rosary, and I distinctly remember feeling awe when I saw the beads. I hope you have a lovely time walking through that mystical door! ❤️
Mary O'Connor says
Tess, I just love your commitment to everything magical. I am intrigued by the pagan rosary. I am Catholic and grew up saying the rosary. I pulled it out again after you started doing it. I have such a hard time committing to anything, but I love this rosary ritual and am going to put forth the effort to create a similar practice.
thanks,
Tess Whitehurst says
Mary, thank you for your sweet words, and for letting me know you’re going to give it a try. I love the thought of you doing the prayers along with me (or similar ones). I hope it sticks as a habit, but it can also just be a lovely practice for any time you’re in the mood. ❤️

Thank you! I loved these words last week during Circle. It’s wonderful to have it all written out for us. The Declaration reminds me of The Apostle’s Creed when I used to go to Evensong, back when I had to go to church with my parents (Anglican/Church of England). Evensong was my favourite service — beautiful words and music.
Tess Whitehurst says
Bethtana, exactly! I loved the idea of the Apostle’s Creed, so I wrote out my own set of beliefs to declare daily.
Sarah Mertes says
Thank you so much for this pagan rosary prayer! I love both the basic and advanced versions. I was raised catholic but as an adult have chosen a pagan pathway. Integrating the catholic rosary has always been a part of my personal practice and journey. And this has helped bring so many things together that more closely align with my personal beliefs. I’m very grateful!!!
Tess Whitehurst says
Sarah, you’re so welcome! Thanks for reading. I hope you enjoy praying the prayers.
