These blossoming botanicals possess unique metaphysical properties that are helpful in love magic.
This is an excerpt from my book, Little Guide to Love Magic: Everything You Need to Know, Including Love Spells.
Flowers can be employed as botanical charms by placing them on your altar, growing them, or adorning your home with them.
Flower essences can be used to create potions. Please note that a flower essence is not scented and is not the blossom itself, but is instead a homeopathic remedy that possesses the vibration of the blossom. Flower essences come in little glass dropper bottles that can be purchased at many health food stores and metaphysical supply stores and also online. The only physical ingredients in most flower essences are usually just brandy (or glycerin) and water, so unless you have a sensitivity to a tiny bit of brandy (or glycerin), flower essences are safe to use. But if you have any allergies or sensitivities, check the ingredients to be sure, because not all flower essence companies use the same recipe.
Certain flowers, when dried, can be made into teas.
Additionally, some flowers are available as essential oils, which are highly concentrated and should be used with caution. Essential oils can be diffused (provided there are no animals around and no one who may be allergic), wafted under the nose (again, be careful if you have allergies), or worn (if diluted and your skin is not overly sensitive). When in doubt, you can go ahead and skip the essential oil. Ultimately, your intention is the only magical ingredient you need. While essential oils can be great tools, you can absolutely work successful love magic without them.
In the following descriptions, you’ll find recommended methods to employ each flower in your love magic.
Carnation
Carnation is a fiery symbol of passion and rebirth. Grow carnations, bring them into your home, or place them on your altar to ignite or reignite passion or to help revive a relationship. Red carnations help with passion, pink ones with friendship and love, and white ones with healing from past challenges and starting anew.
Cherry Plum
While cherry plum is in bloom for only a brief window every spring, cherry plum flower essence is available year round in the supplement section at most health food stores. Add 2–3 drops of the flower essence to your drinking water every day for at least thirty days to become entrancingly beautiful and radiant. You can also add 8–10 drops to your bathwater to infuse yourself with confidence and charm.
Citrus Blossom
If you happen to encounter a blossoming citrus tree—orange, lemon, grapefruit, etc.—be sure to stop and smell its creamy white flowers, which possess a delicate sweetness. But since we don’t all live in climates that support citrus blossoms (and they don’t bloom all year anyway), you can harness their magic year round by working with essential oil of neroli, which is actually made with orange blossoms. Neroli essential oil can be inhaled, diffused, or worn (dilute it and be careful, especially if you have sensitive skin) to attract divine partnership. Neroli is great for when you want to find someone to spend your life with, or when you want to deepen and solidify an existing relationship.
Daisy
The essence of simplicity, daisy is helpful in love magic when you want to cut through burdens and complexities and discover the bliss of unencumbered romantic love. If you’re tired of having a confusing or complicated love life, daisy is for you. Grow daisies, bring them into your space, place them on your altar, or add daisy flower essence to a beverage or bath with the intention to magnetize the incomparable sweetness of simple and straightforward love.
Hibiscus
Hibiscus is a passionate flower, and hibiscus tea is a passion potion. In addition to its refreshing taste and cheerful red color, herbal tea made from hibiscus blossoms bolsters the heart while igniting the libido. Make hibiscus tea as you would sun tea or iced tea, then mix it to taste with a fruit juice such as grape, apple, cranberry, or peach. Employ the tea as an aphrodisiac for yourself or a partner, or as a shared ritual. Hibiscus flower essence can be added to beverages or bathwater to awaken sensuality and amplify your beauty and charm.
Iris
Iris is aptly named after the Greek goddess of rainbows, who communicates the beauty and subtlety of the realm of the Divine. Iris (the flower) helps draw a soul mate: someone who will perfectly complement you and help you to grow in this lifetime. If finding a soul mate is your intention, then you might grow irises in your garden or bring one or more of them (as cut flowers) into your home.
Jasmine
If you happen to have access to fresh jasmine blossoms, they can be an excellent adornment for the hair, particularly if you’d like to inspire romantic attention and sexual desire. Or, for this same purpose, you can wear a natural perfume containing jasmine essential oil or jasmine absolute.
Lavender
Lavender—fresh, dried, or in essential oil form—is excellent for all forms of relationship healing. It heals broken hearts, guards against unkind words, heals discord, and helps release guilt and shame related to love, romance, and sexuality. Make a potion of lavender tea for any of these purposes, and drink it alone or share it with a partner. Other ways to work with the magic of lavender include growing it in your garden or wearing or diffusing the essential oil. (Dilute it with lotion or oil if you’re going to wear it, and be extra careful if you have sensitive skin.)
Orchid
Not everyone can grow orchids (I know, because I’ve finally given up), but if you can, then placing a living orchid in your bedroom or dressing area can help enhance your beauty, elegance, and general attractiveness. Additionally, a live orchid in the home can increase pleasure, passion, and desire.
Rose
The rose is such a powerful love charm that even the least magically minded among us might give it as a gift to a love interest, with wonderful results. Indeed, roses are said to be love itself in blossoming form and, as such, the highest-vibrating living thing.
If you obtain dried rose petals from a bulk herb section in a store or dry your own organic roses, you can use them to brew tea, which is a love magic panacea. Rose tea can help heal, open, and bolster the heart and promote love and connection. You can also grow roses, bring them into your home as cut flowers, give them as gifts, or wear natural perfume containing rose absolute. Wild rose flower essence is also available and can be added to beverages and baths to raise your vibration, attract love, and harmonize love. Fresh rose petals can be added to bathwater to powerfully attract love and romantic interest.
Red roses symbolize passion, pink ones romance, and white ones purity and healing. Violet-hued varieties bring in a spiritual aspect and can help align your relationship with the Divine. Orange and peach roses bring sweetness to a relationship, off-white or antique ones help soften harshness and negative feelings, and variegated roses bring balance and harmony. Because of their traditional association with jealousy in romantic relationships, yellow roses are the only color not recommended for love magic.
Tulip
Tulip is a voluptuous love-drawing charm. Try sweeping your aura with a fresh tulip (i.e., waft it around your body) to boost your magnetism and attract love. Tulip flower essence can be added to a beverage to boost your beauty and inspire desire.
Vervain
Vervain helps heal a broken heart and magnetize soulmate relationships. Grow vervain outside your home or add vervain flower essence to your drinking water daily for either of these purposes.
Ylang-Ylang
Unless you live in a tropical climate, ylang-ylang is most readily available in essential oil form. Its sweet and sensual scent is ideal for creating a relaxing and openhearted mood for sex and physical intimacy. If this is your intention, you can diffuse ylang-ylang essential oil or wear a natural perfume blend containing it.
