17 Magical Ways to Recharge Your Inspiration This Fall

21 Magical Ways to Recharge Your Inspiration this Fall

Fall is the best! The golden light. The colored leaves. The cool breeze.

And I know we could use all little extra inspiring self-care right about now.

So, here are seventeen magical ways to channel the magic of fall: to bust out of a rut, start a great habit, change your trajectory, banish a stubborn challenge, or simply see things through fresh eyes.

There’s a lot we can’t change in the world. But there are some things we can. Remember that even tiny little actions can cause ripples of positivity in the matrix, and the simplest practices are often the most profound.

1. Burn Cinnamon Incense

The wafting scent of cinnamon is pure fall magic. Magically, it’s protective, spiritual, and calls in wealth. It also lifts the vibe and gets energy moving in a positive way.

Here’s my favorite cinnamon incense.

2. Do an Artist’s Date Once a Week

In the perennial classic, The Artist’s Way: A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity, author Julia Cameron insists that we all must go on least one little adventure per week, alone. She calls it an “Artist’s Date.”The idea is that you are taking your creative inner child out to play.

It doesn’t have to be fancy. It can be taking yourself out to lunch, or a movie, or the dollar store. Or it could be a trip to a museum, a hike outdoors, or a ramble through a used bookstore or public library.

Put “Artist’s Date” in your calendar once a week for the remainder of the year.

Then, brainstorm some ideas and make some plans.

3. Bless herbal tea and drink it

Drinking herbal tea can be boring and ordinary…or, it can be transcendent.

The difference lies exclusively in your intention and the quality of your attention.

Make every aspect of your tea practice – from choosing your tea at the store to drinking it – an act of self-care and an exercise in presence.

After you brew your tea, but before you drink it, take a moment. Hold it in both hands. Relax, breathe, and say a prayer of blessing. Make your beverage into a potion by invoking just the qualities and energies you desire.

Then, as you drink it, consider it a meditation and a spell. Notice the magic within and around you.

4. Learn Tarot (or Learn More About Tarot)

Tarot is a great hobby. It offers interesting and valuable insights with an endless well of nuance and depth.

While even beginners can benefit from playing around with the Tarot, it’s also true that no matter how much you already know, there is always more to learn.

My brand new tarot deck, The Tarot of Secrets, is a great place to start or keep going.

5. Learn to use a Pendulum

How to Use a Pendulum for Divination

I used to feel super uncomfortable with pendulums. I mistrusted them and doubted my ability to use one effectively.

But then I felt compelled to learn to use one when I was learning how to do Akashic Clearing.

While it’s true that it took a while to get the hang of it, now I use my pendulum all the time and love it.

I recommend giving it a try. You can start with this blog post.

If you’d like to go deeper, check out this online workshop where I share about my own journey and all the tips and tricks I’ve learned.

6. Get a Pot of Chrysanthemums

Chrysanthemum means “gold flower.” This cozy bloom helps shore up your energy and illuminate your path as we flow into these darker months.

Mums also help bring abundance and boost your luck.

7. use some Gold Elixir

Switch up your vibe this fall

Speaking of gold, with just a drop of gold elixir, you can attune your water (or beverage of choice) to the vibration of gold, and internalize the sunshine.

Remember to set your intention, too. Say a prayer, visualize golden light in your drink, and attune your potion to the vibration of wealth.

(Other gold-appropriate intentions would be to bolster your spirits, strengthen your wellness, or open up the portal to success.)

Here’s a gold elixir you can try.

8. Read Novels

I like reading classics in the fall. There’s something so magical about peering into times long gone and finding people who are not so different than you.

Some of the classics I’ve enjoyed in autumns past include Middlemarch, Jane Eyre, and Tess of the D’Urbervilles, and Carmilla by Joseph Sheridan LeFanu.

If you’re looking for something modern, check out Interesting Facts About Space. And if you haven’t read Liane Moriarty’s latest yet, I loved that one too and it’s currently only $1.99 on Kindle.

9. Make a Playlist

When you want to spruce up your vibe and get some new energy flowing in, making a playlist is a great idea.

Choose a theme. Here are some examples: self-love, relaxation, or present moment joy.

Next, write out your intentions surrounding this theme, along with the ways you’d like to feel. Write all of this in the present tense, as if it’s already true.

Now, look for songs that capture the essence of all that you’re calling in. In other words, look for songs that give you that feeling.

10. Dance in the Mornings

Here’s another music-related idea: after you drink your morning cup of coffee or tea, put on a celebratory, funky, and/or uplifting song. Then dance.

But don’t just dance: dance like you just won a million bucks or the Super Bowl or the Oscar for Best Feature Film.

(I got this idea from the super fun book, E-Cubed by Pam Grout.)

It only takes 2-4 minutes a day, and you’ll notice positive results immediately.

This is my favorite song for this practice. Use mine or find your own.

11. Make a new protest sign

We’ve got another big No Kings protest coming up on October 18th. So, now would be a great time to take a trip to the craft store and dream yourself up a beautiful sign.

I felt cool about carrying this “Liberty & Justice For All” sign for the last two protests.

I think my next sign will simply read, “Please Be Nice.”

I also want to share my friend Sybil’s sign, which reads, “Love Your Neighbors, Not The Dictator.”

(Feel free to steal any of these ideas, or let us all hear your own in the comments below.)

12. Clean Out Your Closet

If you haven’t lately, clear your closet of all the stuff you no longer love. Free it up, create space, and get energy moving. You’ll feel better, and you’ll open up avenues of opportunity.

Take everything out. Then only put it back in if you love it and it fits.

13. Throw a Clothes Swap

Witchcraft Magick Clothes Swap

A clothes swap is where you invite your friends over and you tell them to bring the clothes, shoes, accessories, and handbags they want to let go of. Then you play groovy music, offer them chocolate and maybe some wine, and tell them to sort all their stuff into piles. (I like to start the piles with my own stuff before they get there, and label the different areas with little signs that say, like, “dresses,” “skirts,” “shoes,” and so on.)

Then you all shop. For free stuff. It really is so much fun, and you will often end up with a seriously revamped and upgraded wardrobe.

It’s so great for the planet to trade clothes instead of buying new ones.

(If you don’t know enough folks who would want to do a clothes swap, you can always bring your old stuff to a nice big thrift store, then shop to your heart’s content.)

14. Enforce a Digital Sabbath

Try leaving your phone off for a whole day. If you think they will worry, you can let your friends and family know beforehand.

Have a list handy of stuff you can do instead – books you can read, crosswords you can work on, home and garden projects you can catch up on, and recipes you can try.

Then, if you love it, try it again next month, or maybe do it once a week.

15. Wash All Your Windows

Here’s some classic feng shui for changing up your perspective and making your vision crystal clear: wash all your windows.

16. Wash All Your Mirrors

Feng shui also teaches that washing all your mirrors will improve your self-image and boost your self-esteem. Give it a try!

17. Clean and Cleanse Your Front Door

wash front door feng shui witchcraft magick

While we’re on the topic of magical housekeeping, simply cleaning your front door is a biggie.

In feng shui, the front door represents the place where blessings and abundance enter your life. So clean it (physically) with warm water – and maybe a drop or two of rosemary and/or spearmint essential oil – and a clean rag.

Then open it all the way and cleanse the threshold with smoke. Sage works. So does palo santo. So do all these fall-friendly botanicals.

You can also mist the threshold with rose water or an aromatherapy mist if you prefer to go smoke-free.
