Activate your creative flow with one of these nine beautiful gemstones.
You are naturally creative. When your creativity is flowing in a healthy way, you heal yourself, empower those around you, and bring beauty and blessings to the world.
Here are 9 crystals that will help guide and inspire your creative path.
1. Cherry Quartz
Have you met cherry quartz yet? I first encountered this vibrant mineral confection at The Ark Bookstore during a recent trip to Santa Fe. Cherry quartz delights the soul, energizes the body, and fills the mind with joyful enthusiasm. Choose cherry quartz for creativity to rediscover your natural wellspring of motivation.
2. Lapis Lazuli
Lapis is a classic choice for creativity because it refreshes our childlike sense of wonder and joy. It also helps the inner child feel safe to express his own unique playful perspectives and to share her creations with the world. Bring a lapis into your life when you’re ready to overcome a lackluster outlook and move through creative blocks stemming from fear.
3. Tangerine Aura Quartz
While all aura quartz varieties support creativity, tangerine aura provides an extra boost of sunshiny optimism. This crystal’s bright tangerine hue soothes and heals the sacral chakra (the energy center located at your lower belly) to activate the creative forces within you. If trauma occurred during adolescence, or if your creativity was stifled in any way during your teenage years, tangerine aura quartz can help rewrite corresponding patterns and stories that have still been holding you back. Work with tangerine aura to channel divine beauty and to become a creative force of nature.
4. Black Moonstone
Delve into your own mysterious depths with black moonstone. This crystal helps us embrace and learn from our shadow side: also known as the aspects of us that we have previously been hiding, denying, or shying away from. This allows us to create beauty out of our pain and to let our challenges become healing and inspiring roadmaps for others. Besides, we can’t fully feel our positive feelings unless we accept and feel our pain. Black moonstone reminds us that it’s the full spectrum of emotion or nothing: you can’t have the joy without the sorrow. They are two sides of the same thing. Luckily, black moonstone offers soothing comfort while helping us heal through our creative practice.
5. Picture Jasper
Each piece of picture jasper is its own natural work of art. Like all jasper, it relaxes the mind, relieves anxiety, and grounds the body in the physical world. Picture jasper is unique in its ability to awaken our sense of possibility and bring us into harmony with the pulsing rhythm of the earth. It’s an excellent ally for dancers, sculptors, musicians, and painters. Get yourself a picture jasper when you want to wake up motivated, boost your physical health, and become an endless channel of divinely inspired ideas.
6. Sugilite
This grape soda-colored crystal helps you see things from a brand new perspective. If your creative expression feels stuck or stale, sugilite will set you sailing along a brand new course. It is wonderful for transforming old paradigms into beautiful and empowering new ones. Work with sugilite when you need to break out of an old pattern or release negative thoughts that have been holding you back.
7. Aquamarine
Aquamarine is another classic crystal choice when it comes to creativity. By purifying, healing, and opening the throat chakra, it helps to remove blocks to speaking your truth and sharing your voice with the world. Keep an aquamarine nearby when you’re ready to move out of the shadows and onto the stage of life, where you can simply be who you are and proudly share your creations with the world.
8. Carnelian
This deep orangey-maroon crystal is great for singers, actors, public speakers. Carnelian emboldens you to step out, stand tall, and be a lightning rod of divine creativity and inspiration. It also helps you stop competing or comparing yourself to others. Keeping this crystal close helps remind you that no one is precisely like you, so there is no reason to hurry, struggle, or rush. Carnelian is a great crystal to choose for support with performing, especially while using your speaking or singing voice.
9. Amethyst Spirit Quartz
All creative endeavors can be enhanced by this sparkly lilac crystal. Amethyst spirit quartz opens you up to the Divine Presence and attunes you to your spiritual support system: i.e. your angels, spirit guides, and divine helpers. It reminds you that you are a co-creative channel through which divine inspiration will flow. Work with amethyst spirit quartz when you want to allow your artwork and entire creative process to be a sacred expression of Divine wisdom, power, and beauty.

What is the difference between Amethyst and spirit Amethyst . The one in the picture looks wonderful . It looks lick a combination of clear quartz with Amethyst tips. Is this what I should be looking for?
Tess Whitehurst says
Spirit amethyst is amethyst but in a particular shape. “Spirit quartz” is a quartz with a lot of tiny little sparkly mini-quartz points all over it.

I have lots of crystals happily residing in the south side of my home, basking in sunset and moonlight. I once bought a set of yellow Jaspers, salted, cleansed, saged, consecrated, and reiki charged them. I could not sleep at night! These crystals were so noisy and energetic, I felt like I was on caffeine. So I moved them outside…. I still heard them! I ended up giving them away. The crystals were a mail order and a nice price, nice energy… I didn’t factor in if the crystals would suit me and match my energy. The crystals were very energetic and probably better for someone less sensitive. I felt bad spending money on something I couldn’t make use of but I need to be in harmony with whatever crystals I adopt. I recently saw on line: a red carnelian perfume container on a necklace cord with the symbol for element of fire. I scanned the energy on the image, and it felt so powerful and magnificent. I felt like the power of dragons and passion. But what if like last time this doesn’t resonate with me? So I’m holding off on this until I am sure.❤️

How interesting! I know clear quartz keeps me awake, but black tourmaline helps me sleep.

Hi Tess, thank you for always having such thoughtful articles, they really help me step out of my own head. My question is about Carnelian. The bit you mentioned about it reminding you that there’s no one like you and you don’t have to rush really struck me. My urge is to make a bracelet with it and some onyx with white lines. Can you think of a good third Stone to go with those? Thanks!
Tess Whitehurst says
Good idea! I’m seeing amber in my mind’s eye for this project.
Kelly Lynn O'Neill says
What? No citrine on the list of stones for creativity? But thanks for all the others.
