Lughnasadh Spellwork and Full Moon Crystals for this Extra Magical Time
I just love it when a sabbat coincides with a full moon – don’t you?
This year, we have the Aquarius full moon on Lughnasadh, August 1st. (This is, of course, not Lughnasadh but Imbolc if you’re in the Southern Hemisphere. Check out all my Imbolc posts here.)
Aquarius is the sign of the visionary: it fuels our uniqueness and magnifies our desire to help bring about positive change in our lives, our relationships, our communities, and our world.
The Aquarius full moon (and this sabbat) always fall in Leo season, which is the time when the sun is in its native sign of Leo: the sign of the self and the heart. Leo season is an excellent time to work on self-love, self-trust, and self-approval. Lughnasadh, named after the Celtic god Lugh (whose name means “Light”), is a natural match for Leo season as a celebration of the inspiring, bolstering, and health-giving properties of light and the sun.
During this extra magical time, we also happen to be in a Venus retrograde period. While this can be stormy with regards to love and romance (particularly with regards to your own needs, desires, and boundaries with this retrograde in Leo), it can also ultimately be a time of deep healing, purification, and restructuring in these areas as well. If something uncomfortable comes up for you in one of these areas, be willing to face it. Get in touch with what you truly need and desire in order to heal old relationship patterns while being true to yourself. Then speak your truth and enforce your boundaries. Whatever happens as a result, surrender to the process of change and uncertainty. By the time the retrograde period is over on September 3rd, you’ll have more clarity and will be ready to move forward in whatever way is most ideal for you.
With all of these cosmic aspects in mind, here are some crystals that are in alignment with this Aquarius full moon energy, as well as some Lughnasadh spellwork that is perfect for this uniquely powerful time.

Crystals for This Aquarius Full Moon on Lughnasadh
I used my pendulum to discover three crystals that will be particularly helpful and energetically resonant for us at this Lughnasadh/Aquarius full moon. Work with one, two, or all three. You can carry them, wear them, meditate with them, or place them on an altar.

Kunzite
Kunzite is a loving, purifying, uplifting stone that looks like pink or lavender ice. It helps heal old wounds in and around the heart chakra as we restructure our relationship to love and romantic relationships. It can also help you release old patterns and pain related to relationships family and friends, and to open up to healthy new ways of relating.
Kyanite
Kyanite strengthens the physical body, bolsters immunity and energy, and creates clarity in the mind. Work with this crystal at the full moon to help you stay true to yourself and remember your worth. This is also an excellent crystal to choose if you want to magically ride the Aquarius full moon wave of environmental healing, community strengthening, and collective social justice.
Rose Quartz
One of the most popular healing crystals of all time, rose quartz is deeply supportive and healing. It helps heal the body, mind, spirit, and heart by soothing stress, alleviating pain (both emotional and physical), and gently refreshing one’s everyday sense of joy. Work with rose quartz during this Lughnasadh full moon to support every form of healing, including Venus retrograde-related love and relationship issues.
Spells for This Aquarius Full Moon on Lughnasadh
Here are some simple-yet-powerful spellwork ideas that will go great with this Lughnasadh full moon.
Full Moon Spell to Heal the Heart
When the full moon is visible in the sky, go outside somewhere where you can spend some quality time with the moon.
Place one white rose and one rose quartz heart in front of you on a table or on the earth, letting them soak in the light of the moon.
Close your eyes, breathe, and relax.
Feel the moon, the rose, and the rose quartz heart each sending their healing light into your heart, healing old grief and pain.
Say a prayer or invocation from your heart, calling on the Divine in a way that feels right to you and asking for precisely the support you desire.
Feel gratitude. Feel and know that it is done.
Bring the rose and rose quartz heart inside and place them on your altar or somewhere else that feels right. When the rose is ready to be released, place it outside on the earth. Follow your intuition about how to work with the rose quartz. Perhaps keep it with you for a while, sleep with it under your pillow for a few nights, or place it on a sunny windowsill to cleanse and purify its energy for the next time you want to use it.
Lughnasadh Full Moon Spell for Abundance
Under the Lughnasadh full moon, offer one bottle of beer or a glass of wine or cider (alcoholic or non) to the moon and earth. Place it outside if you have a backyard or close natural area where you can do so safely and privately. Otherwise, stay indoors, ideally somewhere where you can see the moon through the window.
Also grab one for yourself.
Make a toast to the moon. Also toast the earth. Say, “Thank you for my abundance. Thank you for my luck. Thank you for the sweetness of life. Thank you.”
Drink your beverage.
Then put on a happy/celebratory song that feels just right to you and dance as you soak in the prosperous, lucky energy of the moon as well as the bolstering energy of the earth at this particularly fertile and verdant point on the Wheel of the Year.
Feel even more gratitude. Feel expansion. Thank the earth and moon one more time, as well as the Goddess and the God.
Lughnasadh Full Moon Blessing Ritual for Relationship Wellness
If you’re in a relationship with someone and that relationship could use some support, find a photo of the two of you that you like, in which both of you are happy. Place it outside in the light of the moon, or in a windowsill where the moon is visible.
Light a white candle nearby.
Say, “Great Goddess, Great God, Moon, Sun, Earth. Bless this relationship. Heal it in every way and on all levels. May we move forward with perfect love and perfect trust, for the highest and truest good of all. Thank you.”
Anoint the photo with a dab of aloe, ideally from a fresh aloe leaf. Feel gratitude.
Extinguish the candle. Place the photo on your altar or somewhere else that feels right.
In the days and weeks ahead, release attachment to a particular outcome as you surrender to the process of healing. Speak your truth, listen deeply, and insist on respectful treatment as you treat the other with respect. And be open to what happens.
Aquarius Full Moon Ritual for Positive Change
If you care deeply about a particular issue such as animal rights, social justice, or environmental healing, channel the light of the Aquarius full moon on Lughnasadh to benefit and bless your cause, and to guide you in helping to bring about positive change.
Distill your vision for this issue into a single phrase, such as All animals are respected and protected, Racial and gender equality prevail, or The planet is healing as we relate to it sustainably. Write this phrase on a small square of paper.
Empower a kyanite by holding it in the light of the full moon for a minute or two.
Also empower the paper on which you’ve written your phrase in a similar way.
As you continue to stand in the light of the moon, speak the phrase aloud three times, feeling each time as if it is getting truer and truer. By the third time, sense the truth of your words resonating up to the moon, back down, and across the surface of the planet.
Feel gratitude, knowing that you have already increased the truth of this statement immensely, setting a positive vibrational shift into motion that will amplify and gain momentum over time.
Place the statement on your altar (or somewhere else that feels right) and place the crystal on top of it. Leave them there until the next full moon.
