If you’ve ever performed a spell or ritual from a book or blog post, you’ve almost certainly encountered the instruction to “get grounded and centered.”
Here’s what that means and why it’s immensely beneficial to get in the habit of staying grounded and centered as much as possible: not just during magic, but always.

In my college days I was wild, brash and unpredictable. Some days I was flying high excited and other times I was angry, frantic and felt pulled along by internal and external circumstances. The lows were really bad. I remember going back to visit my parents and they were worried. They would make me calming, comforting, nourishing foods. I would sit in front of the ancestral altar and meditate with my dad. Then I would go into their garden and keep my mom company surrounded by flowers and plants, and fruit trees. My mother would say that she prayed everyday that I be stable and live a peaceful life. She prayed that I learn to calm myself down and be trusting in the universe. She cooked root veggies that ensure rootedness and good health. My dad would say that mastering balance and emotions is a lifelong challenge. He went on to say that if we are not rooted then nothing good can flow to us. He went on to say that spiritual energy is like breathing air, but to be rooted is what helps us manifest whatever we set our minds to. He would apologize and say that moodiness, anger, excessive passion was his biggest challenge, that’s why he meditated all the time. The family priest mentioned that my dad was spiritually powerful and my mother peaceful and faithful. A couple of priests had warned my parents to raise me and my second sister with awareness, They saw spiritual power in me and my second sister. I remember them comming to see our family and they didn’t focus on my oldest sister and older brother. They said that with spiritual power there needs to be discipline to ground that energy. They also suggested that we purify our thoughts and emotions and to breathe calm into ourselves. Now I’m older I have mastered grounding and breathing . I feel so connected to all there is and Mother Earth.

Redhen this is exactly what I mean! Thank you for so beautifully illustrating this. I love hearing about your journey and the way your parents knew you needed exactly that type of grounding. Such a lovely comment. ❤️
