Real Estate Feng Shui: 6 Simple Secrets to Selling Your House

Sell Your Property Quicker with These Easy Feng Shui Tips

You don’t just want to sell your home: you want to sell it quickly, easily, and for the best possible price.
Good news: there are a number of easy feng shui tips to help you boost the perceived value and saleability of your home without having to hire a contractor or spend a fortune.

1.  Clear Clutter

Feng shui tip #1: clear clutter…everywhere! Simply opening an outdoor storage space and spying a bunch of old mops or dusty soccer trophies can undermine someone’s interest in your home. On the other hand, when every nook and cranny of your home is empty, or (if you still live there) contains nothing but things that you love, need, and will use again, people can look forward to, and actually see themselves having, an easy, breezy, and 100% positive move-in experience. This one feng shui tip can make all the difference.

2.  Remove Family Pictures

If you’re still living in the house, here’s another feng shui secret for you: store personal photos rather than displaying them. This works in a number of ways. First, it’s an affirmation that you’ll be leaving soon and begins to move your personal energy out of the space, which creates the space for someone new to enter. It also allows the potential home buyers to more easily envision the home as theirs, rather than causing them to feel that they’re encroaching on your territory. And as we learned in the first example, a great feng shui strategy for selling a home successfully is all about the potential home buyers’ ability to perceive, in a positive light, their future in the space.

3.  Pay Attention to the Front Door

In feng shui, the front door is the all-important first impression. In no small way, it sets the tone for someone’s entire experience of your house. That’s why you want to make absolutely sure it doesn’t squeak or stick. Repair it, give it a paint job, shine the door knob, or do whatever else it needs in order to sparkle. You might also want to invest in a new doormat and make sure any plants around the entrance are vibrantly healthy.

4.  Have Prominent, Attractive Address Numbers

Ideally, we want the house hunters to arrive in a joyful, dreamy, “the world is my oyster” sort of mood. And knowing this feng shui secret can help with this! If the address numbers are not easily visible, your prospective buyers might have trouble finding the place and arrive annoyed, harried, or confused. Needless to say, none of these feelings (even if only felt slightly) lend themselves to falling in love with a house. In addition to making sure that your numbers are visible, make sure they’re attractive and elegant. If they’re slanting downward, rearrange them so that they’re horizontal or slanting upward, both of which will cause them to impart a more solid, trustworthy, and uplifting feeling.

5.  Diffuse a Pleasing Scent

Good feng shui is about pleasing the senses! So it’s a good idea to diffuse an all-natural, universally non-offensive aroma such as vanilla, spearmint, or peppermint. Simply purchase a bottle of essential oil and, just before the viewing, place a few drops in an essential oil diffuser or pot of steaming hot water.

6.  Pay Close Attention to Detail

Finally, good feng shui is about details! Although no one may consciously notice that you swept the doorstep or shined the knobs on the kitchen cupboards, attention to tiny little details like these positively affects the overall home viewing experience exponentially.

Are you also looking for a house to buy? Try this ritual to find and obtain the perfect space.

…And once you’re in your new space, you’ll want to feng shui like a pro! So you’ll want to bookmark my Total DIY Feng Shui Series.

How about any advice for buying a home? To let the seller know that you are the right one for the home?

Ah, good question! Here are some tips:

-make a list of all the qualities of your most ideal home: easily affordable, hardwood floors, fireplace, 2 bedrooms, great for cats, or whatever your ideal qualities might be.

-before you view the home, and every day as a part of your meditation, visualize/imagine/feel yourself easily, effortlessly, perfectly finding, acquiring, and affording your most perfect new home. Then, feel the feelings that go along with already living in your most ideal home.

-foster a feeling of trust that the right home will come into your possession easily and effortlessly, and that there is no need to hurry, worry, or force.

-if you love a home, view it with openly expressed love, but also with the inner knowing that if the home for some reason does not come into your possession, it's because something even more wonderful is on the way. That way, you exude enthusiasm, but not desperation. Which is the most attractive and magnetic thing to exude.

    Hope this helps! Happy hunting.

This is exactly what I did when searching for my perfect home – and it worked! That was ten years ago, and we're still here. Still the right home for us, too.
