As I wrote about in this post, Mercury Retrograde is an excellent time to let go of unhealthy habits and transform unhelpful patterns.
So time to get to work, magician! Here are 5 places to start.
Are you living with or dancing around some hidden caches of relationship weirdness? Let’s say with a family member, friend, coworker, or romantic partner? There couldn’t be a more perfect time to admit these weirdnesses to yourself and examine them closely. What are they exactly? How do they manifest? Where did they originate, and what is perpetuating them? Do you have to hold on to them? Is there something you can reframe in your own mind in order to mitigate them, or something it will be a relief to say? (Hint: these are all excellent journalling prompts.)
Assuming You Don’t Deserve Good Things
By now, we all know that self love helps us to thrive. But how do you get from here to there? One doorway in is to look at the places where you assume you don’t deserve to thrive. For example, most of us have a prosperity set point: a degree of wealth that we assume is our natural state. Similarly, many of us believe we deserve sub-par relationships or work situations that drive us crazy. Look at these areas and question them: Why shouldn’t you be a gazillionaire? Why shouldn’t your relationships be fabulous and your work environment be stellar? Now is the perfect time to realize that the Universe actually wants to pummel you with all the deepest and most authentic desires of your heart, and is simply waiting for you to expect them and allow them.
Any time you open your closet and see even a single thing that doesn’t fit you or you don’t feel fabulous in, you have wardrobe baggage. And that baggage is in some way reflecting and holding in place a challenging (and untrue) belief about yourself. It could be that you believe you have to feel frumpy, at least part of the time. It could be that your body size has changed and you feel you have to punish or threaten yourself by holding onto clothes that don’t fit you anymore (and are likely not your style anymore anyway). So, time for a pattern restructuring! Pull everything out and only put it back in if it (A) fits you and (B) makes you feel fabulous. Donate the rest to charity.
Forget food for a second. Did you know that simply changing your beverage habits can potentially have a gigantic effect on your health, wellness, and energy levels? Simply replacing all your juice and sugar drinks with water, and taking the sweeteners out of your coffee and tea can go so far toward balancing your blood sugar and reducing your overall calorie intake. In turn, this means reducing stress, anxiety, mood swings, and risks of diabetes and cancer. And it’s not that difficult! Plus, a Mercury Retrograde period is an absolutely perfect time to begin.
Have you heard the Fritz Perls quote, “Fear is excitement without the breath”? So true! Our breathing patterns aren’t just results of our inner thought patterns, they actually define and shape them. This is why something as simple as conscious breathing can be the difference between gut-wrenching fear and exhilarating excitement. So take advantage of this Merc RX pattern breaking energy and when you notice your mind going into an anxious spiral, simply bring your attention to your breath. Notice when it goes in, notice when it goes out, and allow it to naturally begin to deepen as you keep your awareness on it. And when your mind starts to wander, don’t even trip! Just bring it right back.
