A solar eclipse is an opportunity to break old chains, step out of old patterns, and fly free into beautiful new paradigms.
That is, if we can assess what isn’t currently working in our life, and then bravely stare it down.
And if we can get in touch with the most glorious vision we have for our life’s most ideal unfolding, then bravely feel it, see it, trust that it’s possible, and believe that we deserve it.
Yes, both require bravery. The first because it can be painful to admit what’s dragging us down. The second because no matter how weighed down we may feel by our old patterns, problems, and programs, they are still what we know. Envisioning our life without them can feel unsafe because we’ve never been there before.
This relatively simple ritual will help with all of it: releasing the old, embracing the new, and setting your soul free.
It’s best to do it as close to the moment of the eclipse as possible.
Ingredients:
One black, brown, or grey votive candle on holder
One white votive candle, nearby but not on the same surface as the darker colored candle
A clock (preferably not the one on your phone, but if you must use your phone, at least put it on airplane mode)
Lighter or matches
A few minutes before the eclipse, sit comfortably and center yourself. Light the dark candle. Feel that it represents old heaviness and darkness in your life, such as unhealed emotional pain, unhealthy habits, low self esteem, recurring life challenges, etc.
At the moment of the eclipse, blow the candle out. Feel and sense that all power and momentum has been removed from these things in your life. Just for this moment, release all worries and fears. Release the sense that any of this old stuff has any power over you. Feel a deep sense of inner stillness, quiet, and calm.
After about 2-3 minutes (the duration of the eclipse), remove the dark candle from the holder and replace it with the white one.
Light the white candle. Feel that it represents personal freedom and new beginnings. Feel the euphoria of experiencing your most beautiful vision for your life. Trust that this is possible. Trust that you are a divine child, beloved and deserving of every wonderful thing.
Allow this candle to continue to burn for as long as you can keep an eye on it for the purpose of fire safety (it’s OK to take it with you from room to room). As it burns, I highly recommend engage in self-loving activities such as dancing, baking, taking a bath, relaxing with a book, journaling, painting, or anything else you really love to do.
(Of course, when you’re sure it’s safe to do so, throw the first candle away.)
P.S. Are you afraid of Mercury Retrograde periods? Don’t be! Here’s why I like them (and you can too).
I can’t wait to start my journey and to learn new things. I’m really excited. Thank you for allowing me to join.
Yvonne, glad you’re excited! Thanks for reading and connecting. 🙂
Thank you for sharing this , I can so feel the new beginnings ,already doors are opening L&L ??
YAY, Elizabeth! Happy eclipse. 🙂
Should the lighting of the first candle be when the eclipse first begins or closet to when it’s in it’s totality?
Hi Jennifer! Thanks for reading! The lighting of the first candle happens a few minutes before the eclipse. Then blow it out during the eclipse. The second candle is for after the eclipse is over.
Thank you! I can’t wait to try this!
Hi Tess!
I have to work during the eclipse but I would really like to perform this ritual. Can I do it the morning of the eclipse? Which will be several hours before it begins. Or can I do the first part with the black candle in the morning and the second part with the white candle at night when I return home?
Thanks!
Ana
I was going to ask this same question!
Hi Kaylee! Yes, as I mentioned to Ana, doing it in two parts sounds like an excellent idea.
Yes: I love the first part in the morning, second when you return idea!
Didn’t have anything planned and did this today. Thank you for such a simple process. I also shared it in my Feed Her Soul Tribe Facebook group!

Awesome. Thanks, Ro!
Is there anything to do for the upcoming partial Sloan eclipse on Feb. 15 2018?
I will be leading a free, live ritual for the lunar new year that day on my Facebook page! Feel free to join if you like. Here’s the info: https://www.facebook.com/events/320568778438796/
