3 Protection Spells for Your Loved Ones: Child, Animal Friend, and Adult
Cast protection magic for those you love. Here are three simple, powerful spells: to protect a child, an animal companion, and an adult.

Every day, as part of my daily meditation, I ask the Divine to surround my loved ones with light and to protect them from all harm. I suggest that you do this too, particularly with children, partners, animal friends, and anyone else you’d like to protect.
The following spells are for times when you feel you’d like an extra dose of protection. (If you are their caretaker, remember to take every possible and appropriate step to keep them safe in the physical world as well.)
This is an excerpt from my book, Little Guide to Protection Magic: Everything You Need to Know Including Protection Spells.

Spell to Protect a Child

To protect a sensitive child and to prevent them from feeling worried, overwhelmed, or unsafe, try this spell.
Gather these items:
- A lapis lazuli (stone)
- A picture of the child you would like to protect
- A bit of hemp twine or white ribbon
Cleanse and empower the lapis lazuli stone outdoors in sunlight or by safely burning sage smoke around it. (Be sure to safely extinguish the sage if you use it.) Then cast your circle and begin.
Call on the Divine in a way that feels powerful for you. (Personally, for this one, I’d call on Mother Mary, but there may be another divinity, saint, angel, or name for the Divine that feels more resonant for you.)
While holding the stone in your left hand, speak words from your heart about how you’d like the Divine to help protect the child, such as:
Mother Mary (or Great Mother Goddess, etc.), please keep (name of child) safe from all harm, and help them to feel harmonious, protected, and secure. Help them to feel free to be playful and childlike, and not to absorb negative energy or worry from their environment. Help them to sleep soundly and to know that all is well. Watch over them always. Thank you.
In your mind’s eye, see the child smiling and laughing throughout the day. See them radiating positivity because they feel so joyful and safe. Sense and know that they are safe and sound. Feel this reality and feel gratitude for it, as if it’s already completely present and true.
Place the lapis on the child’s photo and roll it up into a small scroll. Tie it with the ribbon or twine and keep the charm somewhere safe. (For example, you might place it on your altar or in a jewelry box or dresser drawer.)

Spell to Protect an Animal Friend

To invoke extra protection for an animal friend, gather these items:
- A small image of Saint Francis of Assisi (such as a statue or tile)
- A brown votive candle and holder
- An image of your animal friend
Cast your circle. Light the candle and ask Saint Francis to watch over your animal friend. Speak honestly to this kind spiritual helper about precisely the kind of protection you’d like him to provide. Thank him heartily.
Open your circle, extinguish the candle, and move the candle, picture, and image to your altar or another flat surface in your home (such as a shelf, counter, or table).
You can light the candle and invoke Saint Francis to protect your animal friend once per day for as long as extra protection is desired. You might consider incorporating this into your daily meditation.

Spell to Protect an Adult Partner, Friend, or Family Member

There is no need to cast a protective circle for this spell (unless you want to).
You will need:
- Dried yarrow, empowered outdoors in sunlight for a minute or two and then ground into powder with a mortar and pestle or coffee grinder. (You can substitute garlic powder or powdered rosemary if your loved one is allergic to plants in the daisy family.)
Ask Archangel Michael to watch over your loved one, then sprinkle a tiny bit of the yarrow powder in their shoes. (Just the smallest possible amount will do.)
