Reboot your enthusiasm and refresh your life with one of these 5 magical strategies for getting out of a funk.
Life is magical. The world around us is astounding. And every moment is precious.
But we forget that sometimes. Or even though we know it’s true, it feels difficult to access. We feel uninspired. Tired. Overwhelmed. Out of whack. Depressed, even.
…Which is natural! We’re waves of energy, after all: we fluctuate. No one can be joyful, vibrant, and amazed by the staggering sacredness of life all the time.
But what we can do is get better and better at noticing when our inner equilibrium is off, and taking steps to bring ourselves back into a harmonious groove.
Here are 5 activities that will help you do just that.
1. Clean Your Kitchen (Magically)
Try getting out of a funk by deep cleaning your kitchen. Take everything out of one shelf in the fridge, clean it, and only put it back in if it’s still good and you’ll actually eat it. Repeat with the entire fridge, freezer, and every cupboard and drawer in the room. Wipe down the counters. Clean under the sink. Run some white vinegar and water through the coffeemaker. Shake the crumbs out of the toaster. Leave no stone unturned and finish with a good sweep or vacuum and mop. You may not feel like getting started, but once you do, you’ll feel that funk lifting by the second.
For added energy movement and fun, play some music and burn some incense as you clean.
Additional magical benefits: a healthy relationship with food, energy
Additional mundane benefits: a clean kitchen, possible donations for a food drive
2. Connect with The Natural World
Take a meandering walk in nature and watch your funk evaporate.
Please note that this is not a hike. It’s not for exercise. It’s for being in nature. Notice your breath. Notice the sounds around you. Notice the scents. Notice the way the light moves through the trees. When it feels right, take a moment to touch a tree trunk or examine a flower closely. Consider talking to the birds or dancing with the butterflies. Also feel free to sit down or even lie down. The important thing is that you immerse yourself in the experience of nature. When your mind wanders, bring it back to the sensory beauty that surrounds you. (The whole process can take as little as 10 minutes or up to an hour.) Finish by pouring a small amount of blessed water or wine onto the earth as a libation.
Additional magical benefits: inspiration, joy, stress reduction, improved mental and emotional health
3. Magic Up Your Doorstep
Here’s one of the easiest magical ways to get out of a funk: shake out your doormat (or get a new one if it’s time). Before replacing it, sweep your doorstep. Then wash the entire outside of your front door, as well as the door frame, with warm water containing a few drops of essential oil of rosemary.
Additional magical benefits: abundance, positive energy, luck
Additional mundane benefits: a clean doorstep
4. Drink This Flower Potion
Make a funk-busting potion by putting two drops of gorse flower essence and two drops of hornbeam flower essence into a bottle of drinking water. Drink it throughout the day (or for as long it naturally takes you to finish a bottle of drinking water). Repeat daily for seven days.
Additional magical benefits: enthusiasm, energy, healing depression
Additional mundane benefits: hydration
5. Play Raga Music
You’ll be surprised by how effectively playing some raga music can help bust you out of a funk. Intensify the effect by burning some nag champa incense or diffusing jasmine absolute. Raga is a type of Indian classical music with a remarkable power to get energy moving in a different (and positive) way. If you’re not sure where to find it, there are several raga stations on Pandora. You can also find options on YouTube.
Additional magical benefits: sensuality, creativity, playfulness, stress relief, clarity, focus
Additional mundane benefit: a pleasing ambiance
You’re magical, remember? So just go ahead and magic yourself right out of that funk.
…Did you try one of these strategies? How did it go?
I am so glad you suggested Raga Music; I am always looking for new and interesting audio. Expecting sensuality, creativity, playfulness, stress relief, clarity, focus! I didn’t have Rosemary but read that Eucalyptus is a good substitute so I am hoping for abundance, positive energy, luck.
At the very least, I now have a clean doorstep (I did both, actually, so 2 clean ones!) and a nice ambience 🙂
Thank you!
Chris, that’s what I love to hear. Thanks for giving some of this stuff a try, and for connecting. 🙂
I have ALWAYS believed Magic is in the eyes of the beholder.
I’ve ALWAYS been magical. Everything you have said above is exactly the way I live my life.
Thank you.

Kristie, I’m so sorry about all your challenges! I suggest clearing all your clutter and doing this meditation daily: https://tesswhitehurst.com/quick-thorough-aura-cleansing-meditation/
These are helpful activities. None of these are spells. Your headline is false advertising. Coming here to not one spell makes me trust you less.
They are spells if you believe they are, it’s all about your intentions and the magic within it’s all about your own energy, raise your vibration and magic happens.
Yes, in a way, I see magic and mundane as the same thing, particularly when you bring intention to a “mundane” activity. That said, it is true that everyone may have their own definition of “spell.” Much gratitude to everyone for reading and commenting. 🙂
