Summer Solstice Gratitude Practices to Amplify Your Midsummer Magic
Celebrate the Summer Solstice with 5 simple gratitude practices that align you with the magic of Midsummer. Appreciate and you will attract.

The Summer Solstice — known in magical tradition as Midsummer or Litha — is one of the most luminous and energetically potent days of the year. The sun is at its peak, and so is our capacity to see clearly: the beauty around us, the blessings already in our lives, the people we love, and the magic we carry within ourselves.
This is a moment the earth herself pauses and says, look at all of this.
Gratitude is one of the most powerful spells we have. What we appreciate, we amplify — and the expansive, nurturing energies of Midsummer make it the perfect time to lean into that truth. When we genuinely feel grateful for what we love, we become magnetic to even more of it.
Here are five simple gratitude practices perfectly attuned to the golden light of the Summer Solstice.

1. Light Incense to the Sun
As fragrant smoke wafts toward the sky, infuse it with your gratitude. Give thanks for the world-illuminating, life-giving sun.
It’s an ancient tradition to watch the sunrise on Midsummer morning, so this would be an excellent time to (safely) light incense to the sun, but any time during daylight hours will do.
Cinnamon, ginger, clove, frankincense, sandalwood, and cedar are all particularly aligned with the Summer Solstice and the sun. (But be careful! So many landscapes are flammable at this time of year.)

2. Create “Stuff I Love About You” Cards

Your most precious treasures are your loved ones. So, this Summer Solstice, tell them some of the things you adore about them.
Find or create some sunshiny greeting cards, and write out some of the many things you love about those closest to you–their laugh, their generosity, or that kind thing they did that one time.

3. Chant “Om Shanti Om”

The sound Om attunes you to the universe and the primordial roots of everything. The word Shanti means peace.
Express your gratitude and tune into peace this Midsummer by chanting Om Shanti Om. Maybe even get yourself a sunstone mala (prayer beads traditionally created with 108 beads), bless it in the Summer Solstice sun, and then speak the chant 108 times. Use the beads to keep count.

4. Release the Critic Within

The Summer Solstice is a day of fullness — and nothing deflates that fullness faster than criticism. When we find fault with others (or ourselves), we contract. When we choose praise, or even simple acceptance, we expand back into harmony with life as it is. And that is a genuinely magical place to be.
So for the full day of the Solstice, try this experiment: let everyone off the hook. Including yourself. Notice when the inner critic pipes up, and gently remind yourself that every person — you included — is doing the very best they can with what they have and what they know in this moment. That simple shift in perspective can feel like setting down a weight you forgot you were carrying.
If something still needs to be said, find a softer way to say it. You might be surprised how much easier it becomes when you’re coming from a place of grace rather than judgment.

5. Feed the Birds
Scattering bird seed or hanging a bird feeder is a wonderful way to express your gratitude to the spirits of nature on the Summer Solstice. Birds bring so many blessings by their very presence: from their music, to their beauty, to their vital interconnection with the ecosystem. Why not show them some love?
