Summer Solstice Rituals: 7 Magical Ways to Celebrate the Longest Day
Celebrate the summer solstice with 7 simple rituals to honor the sun, invite abundance, and align with the energy of the year’s longest day.

The Summer Solstice is the sun’s pinnacle: the time when the days are longest and brightest. It’s like the sun’s yearly version of a full moon. Or, if you imagine a year contained in a single day, the Summer Solstice would be like noon, when the sun is at its highest, brightest point.
And like the full moon and the noonday sun, the Summer Solstice is when the energy begins to wane, reminding us that extremes always contain the seeds of their opposites: the Wheel now turns as we begin our descent toward the Winter Solstice and the darker half of the year.
Summer Solstice – also known as Midsummer and Litha – is a time when we are bathed in the sun’s incomparable power. We can soak in its healing, expansive, vitalizing energy to consciously bring positive energy and growth to any and all areas of our lives.
Here are seven ways to celebrate the Summer Solstice while activating your intentions, igniting your inspiration, and stoking your passion for being alive.

1. Toast the Sunrise

On Solstice morning, wake up before the sunrise and prepare some ginger, cinnamon, or fenugreek tea. (If you’d like, you can add other solar-attuned botanical additions such as orange slices or cinnamon sticks.)
Go outside somewhere where you can see the sunrise. Settle in and pour a cup of tea for the sun and a cup for yourself.
When the sun rises above the horizon, hold the cup to the sun and say something like, “Sun, hail and welcome! I salute you and I drink to you. Thank you for blessing the world with your beauty and light.”
Savor the tea while soaking in the magic of the most powerful sunrise of the year. Afterwards, pour the sun’s tea on the earth as a libation and gratitude offering.
2. Take a Happiness Bath

There’s no time like the Summer Solstice to soak in some sunshiny happiness to last throughout the year.
Light an orange candle and draw a bath.
Add a tablespoon of maple syrup to the water for sweetness and a sliced orange, tangerine, or tangelo for joy.
Stir the bathwater with your hand in a clockwise direction 7 times.
Stand above the water and direct your palms down toward it. Envision the bright light of the sun coming down through the crown of your head, pouring down into your heart, flowing down your arms, and moving out your palms into the water. See the water completely filled and surrounded with blinding, golden-white light.
Say, “Sun, I honor you on this, your brightest day. Thank you for filling this water with vibrations of happiness and joy.”
Get in and feel your mood lifting as your body, emotions, and aura soak in the sweet and radiant vibes.
3. Bless Your Shoes for Luck

They move us from here to there. They kiss Mother Earth constantly. Our feet are sacred and wonderful things.
Take advantage of their magical ability to propel you forward toward success and root you in the prosperous energy of the ground beneath your feet. Bless your shoes on the sun’s most magical day.
To do so, place one or more of your pairs of shoes outside on the earth in bright sunlight. Decorate them with daisies (any member of the daisy family will do). Also sprinkle a tiny bit of cinnamon in each one.
Say, “The earth is sacred, and so is the sun. May I (or we) be blessed with success, luck, and fun.”
Let your shoes soak in the light for at least 30 minutes.
(This is a fun Summer Solstice idea to do with your kids or other family members.)
4. Bring Summery Flowers into Your Home

Bring the pure, fresh, vitalizing energy of the sun indoors this Midsummer with one or more bouquets of solar-attuned flowers. Consider daisies, asters, yarrow, black-eyed Susans, and sunflowers.
Place some in each room to cleanse and bless your space, and to attune it to the healing, prosperous, and expansive energy of sunlight and the Summer Solstice.

5. Do Sun Salutations

There couldn’t be a better time than the Summer Solstice to salute the sun.
Take your yoga mat outside, face the sun, and do a few rounds of sun salutations. Feel that you are inhaling the sun’s life-giving rays. Inviting the sun’s healing and vitalizing power into your every cell.

6. Make Ginger or Cinnamon Cookies

Both ginger and cinnamon are solar botanicals While ginger and cinnamon cookies are often associated with the Winter Solstice, they can also be perfect additions to your Summer Solstice festivities too.
Mix them with sweetness and bake them with love. Eat them to internalize the magic.

7. Bless Your Crystal Jewelry in Sunlight

Try placing all your crystal, silver, and gold jewelry in the bright light of the Summer Solstice sun. This will cleanse your crystals and minerals and empower them with expansion, positivity, prosperity, and luck.
Let your jewelry bathe in the Summer Solstice sun for at least an hour.

Sending you brightest blessings on this magical day!
