Get old, negative energy out of your life for good with one of these seven simple-yet-powerful practices.
Whether it’s a relationship, a job, a habit, a thought pattern, a stubborn challenge, or any other situation or quality that’s ready to go, it’s time. Get rid of those bad vibes. You don’t want them, you don’t need them, and there’s seriously no reason to keep them around. And since everything is energy (including you and your life experience), you can work on the energetic level to get that bad mojo out for good.
Here are seven ways to clear negativity out of your life. Do one, more than one, or even all seven: whatever feels right.
1. Go Crazy with the Clutter Clearing
This has to be number one, because it’s the most important of the bunch. All the other suggestions will work wayyyyyy better if you clear your clutter. Clutter in the external world always represents and perpetuates clutter on the internal realm, and I mean always. So it’s one of the easiest ways to create big and positive shifts in your life. It creates clarity, it fills you with energy and enthusiasm, it benefits your health, and it (really and truly) brings beautiful changes into every life area…And I am talking about clearing clutter from everywhere: your home (of course), but also your computer, your phone, your workspace, your car, your storage areas, and anywhere else you have stuff that you no longer love or need. 2. Put Lots of Salt in Your Bathwater
Whether you prefer Epsom salt, Himalayan pink salt, Dead Sea salt, or just your standard grocery store sea salt, putting a good cup or more in your bath water is a wonderful way to pull physical and energetic toxins out of your body, mind, and spirit. Be sure to soak for at least 40 full minutes and to have plenty of clean drinking water on hand. As you soak, breathe deeply, relax, and set the intention to release all negativity. Feel patterns and paradigms shifting. And when you drain the water, imagine all that old, negative energy swirling straight down the drain and out of your life for good.
3. Dunk Your Entire Body in the Ocean 9 Times
For a more dramatic salt water cleansing ritual, visit your favorite beach. Set the intention to release all negativity. Then enter the ocean and fully immerse your body in the water. Exit the water. Then repeat 8 more times. Each time, feel and sense the saltwater neutralizing and drawing out negative energy, and the receding waves pulling it away from you for good.
4. Clean Your Whole House
While cleaning your whole house can be time consuming and labor intensive, you have to admit: nothing inspires a positive energy infusion like a sparkling clean house. So if you’re serious about getting that negativity out, busting through blocks, and launching your life into a beautiful new paradigm, put that time in and get ‘er clean. 5. Smudge Your Whole House
To powerfully clear away old negative thought patterns, stuck energy, and challenging vibrations of all varieties, find yourself a bundle of dried white sage. Also find a dish or plate to hold beneath it to catch any burning embers. After opening your windows, light the sage bundle so it’s smoking like incense (not burning like a log on a fire). Move around each room and area of your home in a counterclockwise direction, letting the smoke generously waft around. (This is called smudging.) Pay special attention to doorways, corners, and anywhere you imagine energy might get stuck. Finish by opening your front door and smudging the threshold, and then smudging yourself. Extinguish the bundle by sealing it in a jar or running it under water until you’re absolutely sure it’s no longer burning. (This is great to do after clearing clutter and/or cleaning, or even if you don’t have time yet to do either but you still want to create an energetic shift.) 6. Cut the Cords of Energy
If what you want to release is a habit, a relationship (or residual energy from an old relationship), or any condition that no longer serves you, you will benefit from a cord cutting meditation and/or ritual. Cutting the energetic cords between you and whatever you want to get out of your energy field will release the hold this habit, person, or condition has over you and powerfully purify you on all levels. 7. Write Or Draw What You Want to Release, then Burn It
Often, the simplest rituals are the best. For this practice, simply write or draw exactly what you want to get out of your life. Then throw it on a fire, whether it’s in your fireplace, an outdoor fire pit, or a campfire. As you watch it go up in flames, notice it changing form into bright light, movement, and heat. Sense and imagine the old condition, quality, or situation being completely demolished and transformed, and its light and heat fueling your most positive possible new life patterns and paradigms.
