Do all five of these and create clear, vibrant, positive energy in your home and your life.
Energy may be invisible to most of us, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t there! On some level most of us can feel it (for example) when a room has been shut up for a while, or when something tragic has happened in a house, or when the couple who lives in an apartment are very in love.
That’s why clearing and fine-tuning the invisible energy of your home can have just as powerful an effect on your mood (if not more!) than a thorough physical cleaning. In turn, bright, buoyant, positive energy in your home affects everything else in your life, including your prosperity, success, and relationships.
Here’s how to make sure the vibe of your home is supporting you, as well as everyone who lives with you. (I recommend doing them in order!)
1. Clear Clutter
Of course, clearing clutter is not technically space or energy clearing. Still, perhaps nothing has as much of a positive vibrational effect on your home as getting rid of everything you don’t love, use or need.
If you’re overwhelmed by this prospect or don’t know where to start, don’t worry: this post has got you covered.
…And if you’re pretty sure you’ve got a good excuse about why you’re going to skip this step, or come back to it later, do yourself a favor and watch this video.
Again, I know: cleaning is cleaning, not space clearing. The fact remains that physically cleaning your home goes a long way toward energetically clearing your home. You can, of course, intensify the effect by setting the intention to clear the way for positivity as you sweep the floor, or to adopt a more positive perspective as you wash the windows. And if you’re an essential oil person, this is a great opportunity to use up your oils before they spoil: add a few drops of spearmint, peppermint, lavender, cedar, sage, or clary sage to your cleaning products or mop water and you definitely ramp up the energy clearing factor.
3. Make Noise.
Phew! We made it to the fun stuff. Now, do you have a drum? A chime? A bell? A rattle? If not, no worries: you can just clap your hands or bang a wooden spoon on a pan. As you make noise, move in a counterclockwise direction through each room and area of your space. (Counterclockwise because energetically-speaking, counterclockwise is the direction that unwinds and unbinds.) As you do so, set the intention to break apart and diffuse any and all stuck or heavy energy from your space. Pay special attention to the corners, the dark areas, and anywhere else energy might get stuck.
In case you didn’t know, smudge is a space clearing verb that means to purify a person, object, or place with smoke from dried herbs. While a bundle of dried white sage is perhaps the best known smudging tool, for example, you can also smudge with desert sage, feather sage, mugwort, or fragrant wood sticks from the palo santo tree. Be sure to carry a small dish or plate beneath the smudge stick as you go, and again move in a counterclockwise direction throughout each room or area.
For those with smoke sensitivities (or an extra sensitive fire alarm), a smudge spray is a wonderful (and just as powerful) alternative to smoke.
Now that you’ve purified the space of the energy you don’t want, it’s time to call in the energy you do want. You can do this tool and ingredient-free by simply taking a moment to envision a sphere of very bright, golden-white light completely filling and encompassing your home. Mentally send any intentions you’d like into this light: for example, you might envision and sense this light being filled with vibrations of love, light, clarity, abundance, health, and peace.
Alternatively or additionally, you can bless the space by misting (in a clockwise direction this time) the space with rose water. Roses are believed to have the purest and most positive vibration of any living thing, because they vibrate to the frequency of love.
