Attract or Harmonize a Relationship with These Nine Simple Feng Shui Cures.
These easy-to-implement practices are surefire ways to create an environment that supports and enhances your love life.
1. Reduce Clutter in the Bedroom
Clearing clutter is generally a good idea everywhere, but if you want to create a relaxing and romance-inspiring atmosphere, it’s especially important in the bedroom. If you can, choose another place for – or artfully conceal – your books, knickknacks, vitamins, appliances, workout equipment, and any other items that contribute to a chaotic and non-romantic vibe. Also, storage under the bed is not ideal if you can avoid it, as it does not contribute to an ideal energy flow. (Of course, if the underside of your bed must double as a storage space, store in as airy and organized a fashion as possible.)
2. Create the Space for Two
A lot of feng shui’s effectiveness is owed to the Field of Dreams principle: create space for your dreams and what you desire will then arrive. Or (in the words of Shoeless Joe Jackson), If you build it, he will come.
So whether or not you currently live with a partner, it’s vital to incorporate as many romantic and partner-friendly design choices as possible. (If you’re in a relationship, this creates the space for, and thus promotes, harmony. If you’re not in a relationship, this helps magnetize one.) For example, it’s ideal for your bed to comfortably accommodate two: in addition to plenty of space, this means two nightstands, and space on both sides of the bed so no one has to climb over the other. If you have a patio, two deck chairs or a cozy loveseat porch swing would be fantastic. A breakfast nook with two chairs: same deal.
3. Get Family Photos OUT of the Bedroom
You know what doesn’t create the space for romance? A photo of your mom. Or your brother. Or your kids. Don’t worry: you can go ahead and have these photos any old place you like…except the bedroom.
4. Go for Ambient Lighting
The best feng shui is intuitive. In other words, feng shui simply makes us more aware of the dynamics that affect our psychology and behavior. Case in point: would you be more likely to plan a romantic date in a subtly-lit, ambient restaurant or a fluorescent-bright one? Ambient, of course. So to attract and promote harmonious romance, light your home in an ambient way as well.
…And if you don’t want to invest in recessed and dimmer-switch lighting, here’s a hack: twinkle lights, also known as white Christmas lights. You can run them under cupboards and along shelves, place them in vases, and otherwise arrange them artfully throughout your home for an instant, economical, ambient glow.
5. Choose Warm or Neutral Colored Sheets
Pink sheets aren’t for everyone, but warm white, beige, peach, chocolate brown, or some other flesh tone will support passion, intimacy, and romance. Cooler sheet colors like greens and blues, while wonderful for many other purposes, can be cooling to the passions.
6. Clear the Space After a Break-up
If you still live in the same house you formerly shared with someone else – or even if you didn’t share it, but you did live there when you were in a former relationship – it’s important to clear the space. Otherwise, some of the old relationship patterns and energy will still be in place which will cause energetic obstructions to a new, more desirable partnership.
First, this means getting rid of items that were gifts from, or previously belonged to, the old partner. If you shared a bed with this person, it’s ideal to replace it. (The next best thing would be to perform a thorough bed clearing. Complete instructions for such a clearing can be found in my book Magical Housekeeping.) After that, energetically clear the space. Here’s how.
7. Bring in Fresh Flowers
Flowers are powerful heart openers, romance magnetizers, and emotion healers. Roses are the standby for healing old relationship patterns and attracting beautiful new ones, but if you’d like to get more specific, here’s a complete list of the metaphysical properties of flowers.
8. Mist with Rose Water
Speaking of roses, a simple mist of your space with rose water will help cleanse away challenging vibrations while aligning your space with the energy of pure, sweet, and harmonious love.
9. Decorate with Happy Couple Imagery
Finally, imagery is powerful. So be sure your imagery supports your goal of harmonious romance. For example, if you realize your artwork is purely comprised of paintings and sculptures of people by themselves, or even if you’re displaying a single, striking image of two people who seem unhappy together, you are not leveraging the psychological power of symbolism to your advantage. On the other hand, if you choose artwork that depicts happy human couples, sweet and whimsical animal couples, or even two trees that you might say are in harmonious relationship, you’re surrounding yourself with visual affirmations of that which you desire. And that’s a powerful thing to do.
